Add some lustre with this sustainably produced plant fibre to your next felting, spinning, textile art or mixed media adventure! ! Made from wood pulp, viscose is a plant fibre and can be used in the same way as silk roving. While being significantly cheaper, the fibre also has no static, so layout is easier than silk roving. Viscose bundles available in a variety of options – sets of 4, 9, & 16 in various colourways as well the option to select your own colours in bundles of 12 colours or 20 colours.
Unlike wool fibre, Viscose fibre will not wet felt on their own as they have no scales. In felting, laying viscose over the entire surface of the wool adds a wonderful lustre, strengthens the felt and reduces pilling. Lay the roving in fine shingles, or in long thin strands to achieve different textural and shiny effects.
Viscose fibres are quicker to layout and easier to work with than silk roving as there is no static electricity. Viscose is also a cost effective alternative to silk roving and we stock the whole range of colours. The fibre is 19-20 micron with a staple length min 65 mm (2.5 in) and very compatible with our extra fine merino wool roving. See our whole range for other shades to purchase separately.
The viscose tops weigh around 25 gm/metre, so 20gm is +/- 80cm, and 50gm is +/- 2metres.
Use for felting, spinning, paper making, textile art, hand weaving and mixed media.
