Indigo blue viscose roving. Glossy viscose tops made from plant fibre – regenerated wood pulp.
Viscose fibres are quicker to layout and easier to work with than silk roving as there is no static electricity. Viscose is also a cost effective alternative to silk roving and we stock a range of over 45 colours. The fibre is 19-20 micron with a staple length min 65 mm (2.5 in) and very compatible with our extra fine merino wool roving. See our whole range for other shades to coordinate with this indigo blue viscose roving. Jeans is available in 2 other fibre types – extra fine merino roving and Corriedale roving.
The viscose tops weigh around 25 gm/metre, so 20gm is +/- 80cm, and 50gm is +/- 2metres. Use for felting, spinning, paper making, textile art and mixed media. In felting, laying viscose over the entire surface of the wool adds a wonderful lustre, strengthens the felt and reduces pilling. Lay down in fine shingles, clouds or in long thin strands to achieve different textural and shiny effects. A little goes a long way. Viscose fibres will not felt on their own as they have no scales.
Being a cellulose fibre, viscose dyes beautifully using fibre reactive dyes. Imported from Italy, this DHG product carries the Oeko-Tex certification, so it contains no harmful substances. In-house dyeing of this eco sustainable fibre complies with the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). Extra-fine merino wool roving is also available in the same colours as our viscose. Colours may vary depending on the settings of your device / monitor. More ideas for using viscose from my Feltwest demo. Being a plant based vegan fibre, viscose (rayon) makes a great alternative to silk tops / fibre or ‘artificial silk’.
